The first edition of Africa Basque Challenge was held in Kenya, the theme chosen for the ABC “Mind the gap” challenge was the development of socio-business initiatives that contribute to reducing inequalities between urban and rural.

11 initiatives were created with more than 40 participants.

INTERCULTURAL COMMUNITY OF IMPACT ENTREPRENEURS THAT FOSTERS THE DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIO-ENTREPRENEURIAL INITIATIVES THAT PROMOTE INCLUSIVE DEVELOPMENT AND HELP REDUCE SOCIAL INEQUALITY OR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT.

Meet the initiatives of the edition

  • House of Coco (HoCo):  This company plans to produce sustainable construction stones and bricks made out of coconut waste which impacts positively to the environment.
  • Africa To Manufacture (ATM): The team plans to empower rural women trough value addition on cassava.
  • Amtani: This is company planning to provide an improved technological solution to block chain.
  • Vaa: Want to transform the apparel industry to be more ecological friendly by using fish leather to make best designed garments and shoes.
  • Electricycle: System of eco-motorbike, recharged by solar panels.
  • Africa To The World (A2W): The team plans to create a company able to trace agricultural products, to connect farmers to buyers.
  • Mobaki: Mobaki Ltd is concerned with the environment degradation due to the use of charcoal. The company plans to produce briquets to be used in households instead of charcoal.
  • Baru Baru: Digital platform to promote tourism in areas not yet known to many tourist agencies. Collaboration with Airbnb will be key to secure accommodation in those areas.
  • Kazi: Online is a platform to connect general population to skilled manual workers in carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masons, etc.
  • Glampings: Sustainable tourism through glamorous camping.
  • Softy: This is a social innovation plans to ensure that women and girls in rural areas have access to safe and re-usable sanitary pads.
