CHALLENGE – Rural-Urban Gap
The project
The ABC Challenge – Mind the gap, is a project that aims to encourage the development of digital socio-entrepreneurial initiatives that promote inclusive development of rural Kenyan communities, and contribute to reducing inequalities between urban and rural areas.
Objectives
- Contribute to reducing the development gap between rural and urban communities in Kenya and the Basque Country.
- Develop socio-entrepreneurial project initiatives for the Kenyan and Basque rural population based on digital technology, in line with the SDGs and co-created by mixed Basque-Kenyan teams, through a challenge format: ABC – Africa Basque Challenge “Mind the gap”.

2nd Prize – want to create new alternatives for green energy by producing briquettes made from agricultural waste (biomass)
The team plans to create a company able to trace agricultural products, to connect farmers to buyers.
This is company planning to provide an improved technological solution to block chain.
Online is a platform to connect the general population to skilled manual workers in carpenters, electricians, plumbers, masons, etc.
Sustainable tourism through glamorous camping
1st Prize – This company plans to produce sustainable construction stones and bricks made out of coconut waste which impacts positively to the environment.
3rd Prize –want to transform the apparel industry to be more ecologically friendly by using fish leather to make best-designed garments and shoes
This is a social innovation plans to ensure that women and girls in rural areas have access to safe and re-usable sanitary pads
A digital platform to promote tourism in areas not yet known to many tourist agencies. Collaboration with Airbnb will be key to securing accommodation in those areas.
4th Prize – are looking to create sustainable Cassava value addition hubs to help farmers in Africa
System of eco-motorbike, recharged by solar panels.
